Emily is a prickly and reclusive teenage girl. After a couple of random tragedies, she befriends Death - who turns out to be naive, neurotic, and completely endearing. Despite being eternal, "Dee" has at least as much growing up to do as Emily does. Over the years, they expand each others' worlds and forge a friendship that will ultimately test every limit they have.
